Weekly Prayer Requests - 10/1/08

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ,
after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make
you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever.   Amen.”       I Peter 5:10-11

World Missions

Pray for Dan Deyhle as he returns to Goa, India today without his wife, Karen, who is undergoing radiation treatments.  She is looking for fresh lessons from the Lord.  Pray that God will continue to encourage Dan as he goes, accompanied by two young volunteers.  Pray that the leaders in Goa will keep on growing in commitment in spite of challenges.

Praise God that a small amount of relief food is being permitted into Zimbabwe.  Pray that much more will be provided so that the two million people threatened with starvation will be spared.  Pray earnestly for change in government to arrest the collapse of the country.  Pray for seed for the planting season and rain to produce a crop.  Pray for strength and endurance for our brothers and sisters there.

Pray for relief from constant harassment of the believers in Nepal.  Pray for the police as they search out those using violence.  Pray for God’s wisdom to strategize how to face this fiery trial for his glory and the extension of his kingdom.  Lift up the churches in eastern Nepal in their fasting prayer chain.

Pray for Ben and Eunice Stoner as they use Firm Foundations:  Creation to Christ with a grandmother and her three daughters and sometimes grandchildren.  It is a slow process; pray for more ground to be covered and commitment to the Lord to be the result.  Praise God that Leon and Cecelia Sam are growing in the Lord.  Pray for their four adult children to find him.

The facilities at Sikalongo Bible Institute are often used during school holidays for conferences and workshops.  If other groups could rent the buildings, this would bring needed income to the school, but the need for repair and refurbishing in this land of dust and termites is great.  Pray that donors will take up the project of providing funds to repair cracks, replace windows and rebuild cupboards.

Pray for Lori Tuplin, joint agency missionary in British Columbia, as she teaches Sunday School for First Nation young people.  Pray too for the ladies’ Bible study that participants would learn to walk with Jesus and with each other as they share and pray.

Praise God for two people baptized and seven received into church membership in Bogota, Colombia last Sunday.  Trevor and Sherry Main request prayer for church members having contact with recyclers who sort through trash for a living.  Pray for ways to minister to this community just a few blocks from the Tierra Linda Church.  Glenn and Glenda Moyer ask prayer for the outreach of their seventh and eighth graders to the poor neighborhood they have found.  Pray for resources to help them.

Steve and Reenie Ginder ask prayer for the students, staff and council members of the Evangelical Bible College of Malawi as they work together to solve increasing financial difficulties at the College.

Pray for the staff in London as they continue to fulfill responsibilities usually carried by the team leader, now on furlough ministry.  Pray for the new couple traveling there for two weeks to assist with Spiritual Formation and Team Leadership functions.  Ask that they settle into the London context and that all whom they touch will be blessed by their ministry.

Leadership

Pray that General Church leaders will be able to provide good information, helpful counsel, and practical support for congregational decision-makers regarding the BIC Church Health Plan.

Church Planting

Inner Metro Green (Lancaster, PA) began their first service on Sunday, September 21.  Please pray for this new church plant and for Pastor Shawn Anthony.

The Difference (Massillon, OH): Pray for the Lord to raise up laborers for the harvest. The need is for 25-45 Launch Team members to help Pastor Cal Hamblin prepare for the October 19 Launch Service.

The Meeting House Ottawa (ON) asks for prayer for volunteers and staff as they bring the first Brethren in Christ community to Canada’s capital! Pray for Chris and Michele Hutton as they relocate to bring pastoral leadership to this community which is deeply involved in political and military culture.

Compassion

Pacific Lifeline (Upland, CA): Tasha, a graduate of Pacific Lifeline recently visited their office. She is pregnant and getting married.  Please pray that God blesses her marriage, this new baby, and this new chapter in her life. Their food pantry is in need of boxed food items and ‘quick meals’.  Please pray that groups take this project on to benefit our resident families. They are getting plans for a security gate around the front of our facility. Please pray that this project can be completed quickly.
