WELCOME

A picture of our mosaic community

In recent years, the Brethren in Christ Church in the U.S. has been wonderfully enriched by an increase in ethnic and cultural diversity. One shining instance of nurturing a community of believers occurred October 15–16 at our 2012 New Pastors and Spouses Orientation. Hailing from across the country, 44 pastors and spouses new to the Brethren in Christ Church traveled to Grantham (Pa.) to attend the orientation.

end-of-year announcements

Counting on 2012 CM contributions

As of November 29, $2,264,467 has been forwarded to the General Church in support of our shared Transformation 2020 vision to equip leaders for transformation, multiply sites for life change, and send workers for witness and service. With four weeks remaining in the year, giving to Cooperative Ministries is $396,926 short of combined congregational goals of $2,661,393 for 2012. We are trusting that congregations will finish the year strong for Cooperative Ministries.

The General Church finance office has set January 21, 2013 as the closing date for receipt of 2012 CM contributions.

2012 End-of-Year Reports due in January

BIC churches in the U.S. are required to complete End-of-Year Reports for their Regional Conference and the General Church. These entities have worked hard to create a streamlined, user-friendly, and eco-friendly process of online reporting for churches.

Regional Conferences have sent churches End-of-Year Reports (Personnel Report, Statistical & Financial Report, Regional Conference Reports, Salary Survey), along with instructions on how to complete them.

The absolute deadline for submitting these Reports is January 31. Thank you for your cooperation!

Cooperative Ministries 2013 commitments

Cooperative Ministries (CM) is the shared funding stream of BIC U.S. In 2013, we'll face a significant financial challenge, due in part to shortfalls in congregational giving to CM. So, pastors, we’re asking you to share a letter, as well as a short video from your bishop, with your church board as our appeal for your full participation in our shared ministries in 2013. View letter and video for your Regional Conference »

All congregations are asked to complete the 2013 CM Commitment Form by January 31.

Quotes for BIC Health Plan in 2013 now available

Over the last two years, medical and insurance costs in the U.S. have seen significant rises. Despite this trend, we are pleased to announce that the rate increase for current members of the BIC Health Plan will be 3% across the board in 2013.

If your congregation is not currently participating in the plan, we would like to have the opportunity to provide a quote to your congregation. We are in an open-enrollment period for congregations until December 30.

General Church leader search

This month, first- and second-round interviews are being conducted in the search for a new General Church leader. Pray for wisdom and discernment for the search committee and candidates throughout this process. More about the search & its progress »

A timely gift

Three Brethren in Christ ministries are the beneficiaries of an $870,000 gift from the estate of Alvin Mellinger. Mr. Mellinger, 89, was a lifelong member of Cross Roads BIC (Mount Joy, Pa.) and chose to leave a portion of his estate to Cooperative Ministries, BIC World Missions, and the BIC Foundation. His gifts to these BIC ministries will make a timely and significant impact on the Church and Christ’s kingdom, including enabling BIC World Missions to begin deploying missionaries again. ECHOES

“So I’ve repented of separating the sacred and the secular. God is everywhere, most fundamentally because, whether we know it or not, God is in all of us.”
