2015 Week of Prayer and Fasting
Each year, local congregations are encouraged to embark on a new year by spending time with God and the community of faith in prayer. Join others the week of January 4–11 by viewing or downloading the resource materials.
YouthQuest is less than two weeks away! Please contact the registration team directly at firstname.lastname@example.org with any last minute reservation changes or additions!
2014 General Conference Minutes and Manual of Doctrine and Government
BIC U.S. has compiled the Minutes from the 2014 General Conference and revised the Manual of Doctrine and Government. Congregations have received their complimentary copies by mail. Additional copies of the Minutes and the MDG are available for purchase or download.
In Part Frequency Changing
The Brethren in Christ Church in the U.S. is evaluating how best to steward its communication resources. Therefore, beginning in 2015, In Part will switch from a quarterly publication schedule to a twice-yearly schedule, appearing in readers’ mailboxes in spring/summer and fall/winter. As always, In Part will continue to share the compelling stories of faith from across our BIC community.
Equipping for Ministry
Equipping for Ministry is the theological education arm of the BIC U.S. Commission on Ministry and Doctrine. We have had 5 persons complete the 12-course Directed Study Program (DSP) in spring and summer terms, 2014. Attendance reached 306 for the Impact Seminar C.R.A.C.K.E.D Wide Open: The BIC Approach to Scripture. “Good tools shared” was typical of the positive responses. Because of the requests from those unable to attend, this seminar will be offered as a first ever webinar on January 17 and 24.
New Special Projects Coordinator
Vicky Landis, BICWM Mobilization Administrator, has taken on the additional responsibility of Special Projects Coordinator. Since Vicky is regularly “on the go” visiting churches to recruit for STEP and global teams, adding special projects promotion and administration to her role was a natural fit. The SPICE program is our most visible special project, administered previously by Joleen Brubaker. Additionally, there are over 80 special projects in the Partnership Handbook that give individuals and churches the opportunity to partner in the work of our BIC churches around the world.
Brethren in Christ World Missions
At BICWM’s recent Administrative Cabinet meeting, there was discussion of the need to prioritize and identify posts in strategic areas around the world. Regional Administrators are assisting in setting ministry goals and naming the posts in each of their regions, which will assist mobilization and recruiting efforts in 2015.
The BICWM Task Force—studying BICWM structure for ongoing ministry—met for the first time November 19. This meeting was helpful in establishing historical perspective and common expectations for the process. The following individuals were in attendance and encouraged to share openly—Pam Arnold, Mirta Colloca, Kris Garis, Steve Ginder, John Hawbaker, Wanda Heise, Ken Hoke, Grace Holland, Vicky Landis, Jonathan Lloyd, Alan Robinson, and Esther Spurrier. END OF YEAR REMINDERS
2013 End-of-Year Reports due January 31
BIC churches in the U.S. are required to complete End-of-Year Reports for their Regional Conference and the General Church. Congregations are asked to submit all End-of-Year Reports by January 31, 2015. Thank you!
2015 Home Ministry Schedule
The 2015 Home Ministry Schedule is now available and has been emailed to each congregation. To arrange for a missionary to speak in your church, we ask that you contact them directly with the information provided in the schedule. Once speaking engagements have been arranged, we will provide a more detailed schedule.
Board for World Missions Meeting
A Board for World Missions meeting will be held January 13–14, 2015 at the Grantham Church, (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). The current Board for World Missions members are: Heather Beaty, Mirta Colloca, John Fickett, Steve Ginder, Amy Harlacher, and John Reitz. Also serving on the board at this time is the BICWM Interim Leadership Team. Regional administrators will also be present. We are thankful for each leader and ask for you to remember them in your prayers as they serve in these important roles. We value their wisdom and direction on missiological issues facing our global ministry and look forward to this face-to-face meeting. Members of our BIC community are invited to attend the open board sessions from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. both days.
