“Last” Momentum

In each issue of Momentum, it’s a joy to share ministry news and resources. Last summer, we took the step to combine our national and global e-newsletters into one “Momentum” publication. Looking ahead in 2015, some further updates to this format are underway. This will be the last newsletter titled “Momentum” as we design and name a new e-newsletter covering the national and international ministries of BIC U.S. Watch your inbox for this updated publication in March!

End-of-Year Reports due

BIC churches in the U.S. are required to complete End-of-Year Reports for their Regional Conference and the General Church. A reminder that reports from congregations are requested by January 31, 2015. Thank you!

London and Spain Report

In a tiny, extremely hilly village in the Pyrenees Mountains of northern Spain, the London and Spain teams recently met for a four day ministry retreat. John Hawbaker, regional administrator, served as point leader for the gathering which, rather than hosting a guest speaker, focused on resourcing and encouraging one another. Each person or couple creatively presented a teaching, led a group exercise, or led a discussion on a relevant topic. This was “a most profitable time of fellowship, growth and mutual encouragement,” John shares.

Global Compassion Fund

Last year, the World Hunger Fund was retitled the Global Compassion Fund to more fully promote the assistance it provides—such as flood recovery, school supplies, food, and housing.

In 2014, the Global Compassion Fund released a total of $37,257 to Nepal (blankets), Zambia (fire recovery), Mennonite Central Committee (general fund and Syria relief), and Honduras (food relief).

Currently, there is dialogue with Malawi church leaders regarding flood relief. Please visit the Global Compassion Fund webpage for information about how to give.

Board for World Missions Meeting

The Board for World Missions met January 13-14 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Open sessions for attendance by the broader BIC community provided valued interactions and insights. Throughout the gathering, key board discussions focused on partnership with congregations and organizations, priority posts in each region of global ministry, and ongoing dialogue regarding relationship with BIC Canada and IBICA. Members of the Canadian Leadership Team have been invited to attend the next BICWM Task Force meeting.

2015 Impact Seminar

Full of Grace and Truth: Homosexuality, the Gospel and the BIC Church. Gay marriage and the Church’s response to the LGBTQ community are among the most controversial issues of our day. Even as the Gospel of John describes Jesus as coming to earth “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14), so also do issues related to sexual identity require a similar Christ-like response. Alan Robinson and Perry Engle will be the presenters. This seminar qualifies for Lifelong BIC Learning credit. Click here for further details and to register.

Mennonite World Conference

Mennonite World Conference (MWC) is coming to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania July 21-26, 2015. This is the 16th Assembly of MWC, a gathering of the Anabaptist-Mennonite family that takes place every six years. To register or volunteer, visit the event website.
