2010 Bible quizzing champs claim first title in 45 years
GRANTHAM, Pa. (July 19, 2010)—For the first time in 45 years, a Bible quizzing team from Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church (Mt. Joy, Pa.) has captured the title of denominational Bible quizzing champions.
Competing against seven other teams from four regional conferences, the Cross Roads team clinched the title during a tournament held at Messiah College (Grantham, Pa.) from July 9-11 as part of General Conference 2010.
In securing the title, Cross Roads upset the defending champs from the Nappanee ( Ind.) Brethren in Christ Church’s quiz team, who finished in second place. At the 2009 Bible quizzing finals, held June 26-28 at Waynesboro ( Pa.) Brethren in Christ Church, Nappanee defeated Cross Roads to claim the title.
This year, Elizabethtown of Elizabethtown ( Pa.) BIC Church finished in third, with Fairview Avenue of Fairview Avenue BIC Church ( Waynesboro, Pa.) capturing forth. The Dillsburg team of Dillsburg ( Pa.) BIC Church came in fifth; New Vision of New Vision BIC Church (Pewaukee, Wisc.) came in sixth; and Carlisle of Carlisle ( Pa.) BIC Church came in seventh. Completing the bracket was the New Life team of New Life Church of Hershey ( Hummelstown, Pa.).
Nappanee team captain Ben Zercher was awarded the Quizzer’s Choice Award, a recognition conferred by fellow quizzers and coaches upon the individual that best exemplifies Christian character, excellence in quizzing, and leadership skill.
