Worship resources for Japan now available
GRANTHAM, Pa. (march 14, 2011)—Continuing reports from the BIC Church in Japan confirm that none of the seven BIC churches or their 200 members have been severely affected by the March 11th earthquake or tsunami. However, the Church does request prayer and support as it begins to reach out to family members and neighbors who have suffered from the disasters' effects.
Joining with Mennonite World Conference, the BIC Church of North America is offering two resources to be used by churches during worship. These resources include a prayer and lament to be used during corporate worship and a map (low resolution | high resolution) detailing the location of BIC and Mennonite churches in relation to the epicenter of the crisis. The BIC Church urges members in North America to offer spiritual support and displays of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Japan as they cope, and as they help others cope, with the aftermath of last week's disasters.
In recognition of the long-term effects of these tragedies, the BIC World Hunger Funds in the U.S. and Canada are currently accepting donations to help with disaster relief in Japan.
In the U.S., donations can be made online (please designate "Japan” in the comment box during checkout) or by sending checks to the Brethren in Christ Church Offices at 431 Grantham Rd, PO Box A, Grantham, PA 17027. If giving by check, please make it out to "General Conference of the Brethren in Christ, Inc.," and mark "World Hunger Fund—Japan" on the memo line of the check.
In Canada, cheques should be made out to the “Canadian Conference BIC Church” and sent directly to the Canadian Conference Brethren in Christ Office: 2700 Bristol Circle, Oakville, ON L6H 6E1. Please specify “World Hunger Fund—Japan.”
