—Over the last several weeks, devastating storms have raged through parts of the U.S. South, causing substantial damage to homes and other buildings, and claiming scores of lives.Though no Brethren in Christ congregations were affected directly by these storms, many members of the BIC family were indirectly touched by the catastrophe.

Recognizing the magnitude of the storms’ damage and our responsibility to be Christ’s hands and feet among His hurting people, the BIC World Hunger Fund is now accepting donations to support relief and recovery efforts in the U.S. South.

Donations made to the WHF will be channeled through our ministry partner, Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS), a volunteer network of Anabaptist churches that responds in Christian love to those affected by disasters in Canada and the United States. MDS has launched recovery projects in several states touched by the storms, including Alabama, North A team of volunteers from Lancaster, Pa., pack up for a week of service in Alabama. You can learn more about MDS’s on-the-ground work in Alabama, which was ravaged by several tornadoes on April 27, at the MDS homepage.

“Giving to MDS through the World Hunger Fund is a great way to demonstrate our unity as a Church family,” says Don McNiven, general secretary of the BIC Church in North America. “When we, as Brethren in Christ, join together to share our resources with those touched by tragedy, we send a clear message that we are one body committed to serving compassionately.”
