IN PART ranked number-one denominational magazine by Evangelical Press Association
GRANTHAM, Pa. (May 25, 2011)—This May, In Part, the magazine for the Brethren in Christ Church in North America, was again recognized by the Evangelical Press Association (EPA), placing first in the Awards of Excellence denominational publication category and garnering four different Higher Goals awards.
The prizes, which were awarded at the EPA’s annual convention held Chicago in early May, honors the best work done by EPA publications during the 2010 calendar year.
“We are both honored and overjoyed by these acknowledgements,” says In Part editor Kristine Frey. “The whole BIC family should look on this as a shared achievement, as each issue of the magazine represents the efforts and creativity of dozens of people.”
Up against renowned publications such as Christianity Today, Sojourners, Christian Leader, World Vision, and others, In Part received the following four Higher Goals awards:
- 2nd place in the “Standing column” category for "Parting Words" by Perry Engle
- 3rd place in the “Devotional” category for "Letting Go of Our Lifeboats" by John Reitz
- 3rd place in the “Original art—traditional” category for "Sheep and Wolf in the Workplace" by Nate Bridi
- 3rd place in the “Typography and lettering” category for "Disarming Witness" by Nate Bridi
In addition to this, it also was awarded 1st place in the denominational category of the EPA Awards of Excellence. More than 30 other denominational publications submitted entries in this category.
“Considering the major changes that In Part has undergone in only the last couple of years—transitioning first from The Visitor to Seek, and then from Seek to In Part— this is a notable recognition,” Frey adds. “I’m thankful to those who have contributed to the magazine in all its forms over the years. The firm foundation laid down by The Visitor and Seek, as well as the continued investments by people in the Church today, have enabled In Part to be the strong publication it is today.”
In Part is published quarterly by the BIC General Church of North America (based in Grantham, Pa.) and mailed to about 25,000 BIC households in Canada and the U.S. The magazine printed its first issue in 2007, with the aim to “invite readers into a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ within the context of the shared life and ministry of the BIC Church.” In Part also has an online presence at InPart.org, providing readers with additional articles, updated stories, resources, and other materials related to the printed issue of the magazine.
In recent years, the denominational publication has received other recognitions from the EPA, including six Higher Goals awards (two of which were first-place prizes), one Award of Excellence for the redesign of The Visitor to Seek, and one Award of Merit for the 2009 issues of In Part.
