Death toll in India reaches 2,400 due to flooding


GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2008)—The total of those who have perished since June due to the flooding caused by monsoon rains in several Indian states rose to over 2,400 yesterday, according to CNN.

55 people have died and over 4.3 million in the eastern Indian state of Orissa, where many BIC churches are located.

In all, more than 20 million people have been affected by floods in different parts of India over the last four months, and reports from disaster-management officials in India reveal that 65 embankments have been breached by the surging waters.
