BIC Board for Media Ministries, Inc., announces changes in Evangel Press leadership

NAPPANEE, Ind. (Oct. 9, 2008)—
On behalf of the board of directors for Brethren in Christ Media Ministries, Inc., board chairman Harold Gleason announces sweeping management changes for Evangel Press (Nappanee, Ind.), which includes a commercial printing press and publishing house and is the largest division of BIC Media Ministries.

Effective September 22, 2008,  Darren Shaw, who served as a customer sales representative with the Press since 2003, and Jeffrey Wise, who has worked at the Press since 1999, assumed full management and profit–loss responsibilities for the Press. As general manager, Darren now has administrative and marketing responsibilities while Jeff, as production manager, supervises the facility and printing production. Additionally, a committee of the Media Ministry’s board of directors is closely involved in management supervision and developing future business strategies. Reflecting on the appointments of Darren and Jeff, Harold says, “The new managers should bring fresh and innovative ideas to Evangel Press in times of dramatic change and increasing challenges within the printing world.”

Roger L. Williams, who has served as the executive director of the Press for the last 22 years, will continue in his role as publisher of Evangel Publishing House. He will also oversee lease and real estate management, and will provide mentoring to Darren and Jeff as they begin their work.

“Roger has been a tremendous servant to the Church during his time of service,” Harold notes. “He has always presented this operation as a ministry rather than a business, and he’s cared deeply about the people of the operation. Succession plans are often difficult to initiate and implement, but we on the board were thankful to be able to identify in-house talent in order to develop a plan and lighten Roger’s load as he nears retirement. It has been an honor and my pleasure to work with and learn from him.”

Evangel Press has been a ministry of the Brethren in Christ Church since 1929 and prints for Brethren in Christ organizations, as well as other Christian and industrial organizations. The Press facilities include Evangel Publishing House, which prints and distributes Christian books and literature. Both the press and the publishing house are overseen by the Brethren in Christ Board for Media Ministries, Inc. Media Ministries board members include Harold Gleason, chair; Dale Shaw, vice-chair; Joel Long, secretary; Bob Leadley; treasurer; Judy Stull; Keith Wagner; Don McNiven; and Harold Burgess.
