Christine Sharp named Executive Director of BIC World Missions
Grantham, Pa. (Jan. 15, 2009)—At their January meeting, members of the Brethren in Christ Board for World Missions voted unanimously to name Christine Sharp as executive director of BIC World Missions for a term of six years, effective immediately and continuing to 2014. Chris has served as interim executive director of BICWM since April 2008. Her appointment to the permanent role follows a three-month search process in which constituents were invited to comment on her leadership of BICWM during the transition period.
“The search committee was impressed by the overwhelmingly positive response to Chris’s leadership over the past year. There was across-the-board agreement that Chris is the right person to guide BICWM toward even greater effectiveness and Kingdom impact,” Don McNiven, general secretary of the Brethren in Christ Church and chair of the search committee, stated. He noted that Chris has quickly become known for promoting collaboration, for being able to hear what people are trying to communicate, and for grasping and articulating big-picture concepts. Don also praised Chris for a “commendable job of understanding and addressing complicated financial and personnel issues.”
In addition to Don McNiven, the other members of the search committee were BICWM board members Mirta Colloca, Gordon Gilmore, Moderator Warren Hoffman, Rod Musser, and Doug Sider, Jr.
