The Grantham Brethren in Christ Church seeks applicants for two part-time (25-30 hours) Administrative Assistant positions. 

One position will support the pastoral staff & ministries of the church with responsibility for:

  2. Maintain church membership records and congregational directory data
  3. Meeting preparation and follow-up
  4. Assist with church-wide & public communication to include website, e-mail, brochures, & flyers

The other position will support the financial & facility operations of the church with responsibility for:

The Pastor of Village Ministries reports administratively to the Director of Pastoral Ministries and works closely with other pastoral ministries staff, the church board, congregational groups, and others to advance pastoral ministries in such a way that it promotes the total mission of Messiah Village and encourages teamwork with other departments and groups.

Job Standards:
The Pastor of Village Ministries must be qualified for Christian ministry either by licensing or ordination in the Brethren in Christ (or currently working at completing requirements for licensing or ordination), preferably with seminary training.

One should have experience and training in ministry among older adults or a desire for continuing education in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching, preaching, worship design, visitation, counseling, and plans and conducts memorial services and funerals, attends care-planning meetings with interdisciplinary staff, writes articles for internal newsletters, shares on-call duties...and is a team player. Serves as a member on the Messiah Village Church Board and is supportive and participates in Village life activities.

Full-time Pastor (Morrison, Ill.)Posted: 10/8/2009

The Morrison Brethren in Christ Church is located in northwest Illinois, fifteen miles from the Mississippi River.  Morrison is a rural town of 4,500. The county’s population is just over 60,000. The economy of the area is agriculture with some manufacturing and services.

Attendance has been stable (in the mid 70’s) over the past ten years, with decline into the 50’s over the past two years.  There is a good age mix. A majority of the participants live within five miles of the church building with about 45 % living more than five miles away. They are a friendly, loving, caring church that values biblical community.

The facility can seat over 100 for worship. The adjacent parsonage has been used for Christian Education and meetings in recent years since the previous two pastors purchased their own houses.

In 2007, the Morrison Church invested in a new church plant in Sterling, Illinois.

The congregation seeks a full-time pastor (four days, plus Sunday). In the search process, a pastor with positive biblical preaching, outreach evangelism/discipleship gifts, and relational consensus building skills in order to lead the congregation to the next level.

Youth Pastor (Thomas, Okla.) Posted: 10/1/2009

Bethany BIC Church, Thomas, Oklahoma

This position is for a youth pastor who is eager to minister to the young people at the Bethany BIC Church in Thomas, Oklahoma and surrounding areas. The successful applicant will be expected to be available to prepare, organize and hold youth meetings every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 and Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:00. They will also be expected to visit students at their homes and schools and to attend activities to support the students in their search for love and acceptance. A ministry of presence that ensures an open working relationship with the school is also encouraged. There will also be opportunities for individual and family counseling, summer camps, and activities for the students.

As a church staff member, the youth pastor will have some regular office hours in order to be available to church members and students and to assist the pastor where needed. He or she will also have the opportunity to teach and preach at various times as needed or directed by the pastor. The youth pastor will assist in budget planning and fund raising for youth events.

Bethany Brethren in Christ Church is a church of about 100 to 150 people that attend regularly. We have an active youth group of 20-25 students every Wednesday night, some of whom do not attend church. There are several people who are committed to be there to help and assist the youth pastor on a regular basis. The pastor works closely with the youth pastor and is available to assist and help as needed and he also attends most Wednesday evening youth group meetings.

The salary is $18,000 annually and a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom parsonage is available as a part of the remuneration package. 30 hours a week of ministry is the expectation. Also, the church will consider a larger financial package for applicants who are willing to stay three years or longer. The thinking here is to bring continuity to the youth program.

Bi-vocational Pastor (Cassopolis, Mich.) Posted: 9/16/2009

Bethel Community BIC

The Bethel Community congregation is located in the southwest area of Michigan on a rural crossroads south of Decatur at 56986 Decatur Road, Cassopolis. There are small towns surrounding the church and the 2000 census reveals there are nearly 27,000 people living within a ten mile radius of Bethel Community.

Sixty percent of the Bethel Community congregation is middle aged and older. Most of the remaining forty percent are young families. The church has an average attendance of about thirty. The potential for continuing growth is present in the community, and the church building can accommodate about 70 average in worship.

In the pastoral search process, age, family, experience, and education are not seen to be critical factors. The desired proficiencies of the pastor to be called are preaching, teaching, and pastoral care coupled with focused community outreach. Bethel Community has been supporting a pastor at approximately one day per week and providing a parsonage for housing, with utilities paid by the church. Bi-vocational Church Planter (Medina County, Ohio)

For some time our church planting team focused on the Canton, Akron, Cleveland corridor of Ohio. Further demographics and prayer led to Medina County and the general Brunswick area. The population exceeds 35,000 with 80,000 living within a five mile radius of Brunswick and 60% are unchurched in the county.

A leader is needed with gifting to attract, evangelize, and develop a nucleus group and then expand to plant a church in the area.

Bi-vocational Church Planter (Delaware County, Ohio)

The Great Lakes Conference is focusing on Delaware County Ohio, just north of Columbus for a new church planting.

Statistics reveal an unchurched population of over 100,000 with an evangelical community of less than 4% of the 160,000 population. This county is ripe for planting a BIC church!

Engage Kids Director (Carlisle, Pa.)

Role:
To provide vision, oversight, leadership, training, support, safety and coordination of Engage Kids in accordance with the overall vision, mission and direction of Engage Community Church and the beliefs and teaching of the Brethren in Christ Church.  This position reports to the Sr. Pastor.

Qualifications:

  1. Personal passion for Christ and his mission for the Church.
  2. College degree in Education / Child Care / Or related field or
  3. 3-5 years of experience in direct service with children and administrative responsibilities.

Core competencies:
Engage Kids Director should have passion and competency in areas of character, organization, self-starting, and a willingness to take initiative and be in charge.

1. Passion for the Children - security, growth and development, teaching and spiritual foundation of children.

Responsibilities include:

LEADING / EQUIPPING PEOPLE
Recruiting Teachers / Helpers

  • Working with the Connection Team to get people plugged into areas of passion and giftedness within the Engage Kids Program.

Developing Leaders

  • Mentoring leaders and delegating responsibilities as per people’s giftedness and passion. Working “through” other people to develop a structure of Directors and key leaders of each aspect of Engage Kids.
  • Monthly staff meeting with Engage Kids leadership team for the purpose of evaluation, prayer, development, and programmatic growth.

Training Teachers

  • Organizing three training / equipping events for teachers per calendar year.
  • Organizing an “orientation” handbook of policy and procedures for those who are new helpers or teachers.
  • Oversight of the curriculum choice in consultation with key leaders of each Engage Kids environment.
  • Resourcing  teachers for growth in creativity in each teaching environment.
  • Painting a vision of excellence for preparedness and creativity in teaching.
  • Keeping teachers accountable for commitments to the schedule.

Following up with teachers who fail to find replacements or miss their scheduled participation. Maintaining level of accountability for communication of switching weeks with other teachers, etc.

ADMINISTRATION
Maintaining standards of safety and excellence in teaching.

  • Maintaining a master schedule for all areas of Engage Kids---Check in, Infants, 2-3yrs, 4-5 yrs, and School age.
  • Developing and enforcing safety procedures in classroom and protocol.

     Check in / check out, bathroom policy, sexual misconduct, etc.

  • Maintaining background checks, volunteer applications for working in Engage Kids, doing background research on volunteers when necessary.
  • Communicating with parents regarding curriculum, programming, etc.
  • Ensuring the copying and distribution of curriculum to teachers 2 weeks in advance of their scheduled teaching time.
  • Ensuring the ongoing inventory of supplies, snacks, crafts, etc. to resource teachers in each Engage Kids Environment.

Curriculum Development

  • Ensuring the continuity in the curriculum choice per class week to week and between different classes.
  • Long Term – develop a scope and sequence of curriculum from 2-3 yr olds through 3rd grade. 
  • Implement our philosophy of interactive learning centers in each of the classrooms in age appropriate ways.
  • Choice of curriculum should be informed by the values of Engage: A narrative approach to scripture, emphasizing relationships in community, emphasizing stewardship of creation, re-purposing resources, etc.

Other Administrative functions

  • Oversee children’s ministry budget and spending.
  • Attend bi-monthy “staff” meeting with senior pastor to ensure alignment with the overall vision and direction of Engage. Second, to measure progress and development with the pastor. Third, to check in with the pastor for the purpose of caring for you and protecting your time and life balance.
  • Complete a detailed time-sheet twice a month in order to ensure appropriate use of resources and time per task of responsibility.

Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Pastor.

Executive Director, Paxton Ministries (Harrisburg, Pa.) Posted 10/29/2009

Started in 1981, Paxton Ministries (Paxton Street Home Benevolent Society, Inc.) located in Harrisburg, Pa., provides housing and support services primarily to persons dealing with poverty, mental illness, and developmental disabilities. Support services include transportation, medication monitoring (no licensed medical care), appointment scheduling, shopping, financial management, and activity programming. The organization has 2 locations; a Department of Public Welfare licensed 85 bed personal care home at the main campus and a 5 unit unlicensed apartment complex a brief walk from the main campus. Serving persons regardless of their ability to pay, this Christian-based organization offers a stable home situation where an individual’s self worth is maximized in a loving and caring environment. This position of Executive Director offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced person to lead the organization in a likely redesign of programs/services in light of anticipated reimbursement/regulatory changes. A part of the executive’s work will be off campus working with a diverse group of constituents, with a significant portion of that work related to fund development. Food Services Assistant (Harrisburg, Pa.) Posted: 9/21/2009

Paxton Ministries seeks a Kitchen Assistant experienced in all aspects of food services, including preparation and cooking. This is a 40 hour a week, paid position with full benefits. Employee will be required to work two evening duties a month and one weekend. This position is responsible to the Food Services Manager and will oversee food production in the Manager’s absence.
